[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Leading the Eco-Public design studio at the School of Design and Innovation – College of Management , Academic Studies. This course is always based on a corporation with an identified community and the academic studio.
The first important stage of the project is wandering. Wandering around by foot in the chosen area as a tourist. Coincidentally meeting and talking to people, documenting by camera, sketches and words having a subjective, first time experience.
After that we are ready to meet the community representatives. We hold a structured and methodological session that help us collect data and learn about the community’s diversity, challenges, needs & priorities. We mainly listen and gather information as much as we can. In those sessions I usually divide my students by the different research fields that are needed to start off the project so after the main collective session my students continue on there own to interview people, map relevant spacial and social information layers .
At the end of this stage the students and I go back to our studio and in few sessions we visualize, discuss and integrate all the data collected into a take off brief for the community design project. As the project progresses in our design studio we meet the community’s representatives for update and feedbacks that will influence our design process.
This post contains some examples of community working sessions and visits.
